Usually when a director or casting director is auditioning someone, they are looking for what you do with and how well you present your monologue. It makes no difference where it comes from.
Whether you are auditioning for professional or amateur theater, keep it short. Under a minute, about 30 seconds is usually best. This is your product. Make it believable and sell it!

You only need permission for your monologue if you're planning on using to make money. What I mean is that you can't use a monologue and perform it and make people pay for a ticket. You don't need permission to use a monologue for trying out for a play or movie though.
