yes he was, he had four sons who died by 1914 and his wife was hounded by lawyers in a sort of "bleak house" mania after his death for his publishing. This went on for generations. in 2013 "Showboat" enters public doman ( you get 70- years to reap what you sow in publishing, 3 generations) im researching now how much the family were hounded. What i do now is that Mrs Hammerstien was depicted as a madwoman, and her character libelled, her credibility and social standing were eroded by the amounts of sophistry and billions have been bilked from Hammerstiens estate.

For some reason this made me think of Courtney Love ( Cobain) , how she is depicted and how she rails and rails on social networks and im very curious, given the CPI index it must be much more money now , given that Kurt Cobain- although very very different from Oscar Hammerstien and far less proflific, owned about 100% of his publishing and given that his will was not allowed to stand, she is the sole heir.
