The Black Pearl, originally titled the Wicked Wench (The ship was originally named Wicked Wench before she was ordered burned and sunk by Lord Beckett. It was later raised from the sea floor by Davy Jones after making a pact with Jack Sparrow who rechristened her the Black Pearl), is a fictional ship in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. It is said to be uncatchable, meaning the fastest ship in the Carribean.
The Black Pearl was taken down to the depths for some reason - I'm not sure what - and Jack Sparrow, who loved her so, made a deal with Davy Jones to bring her back up and let him be captain for 13 years. After that, the Pearl would be gone and Jack would serve 100 years of servitude on the Flying Dutchman in payment.
After two years of captaining, Jack decided to go after the treasure of the Isla de Muerta, a cursed load of gold, and he was stupid enough to give his first mate, Barbossa, the coordinates beforehand. That night, the crew, led by Barbossa, mutineed against Jack and left him stranded on an island, so they took the Pearl and went after the treasure.
That's the history. Want more? Ask me.
The notorious pirate named Black Beard, captured a large ship owned by the French that was used in the slave trade around 1717. He refitted the ship with canons and made it ready to maraud transport ships in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. He renamed his new pirate "wagon" Queen Anne' Revenge. He did this because he was an Englishman and was loyal to the late Queen Anne Stuart. The Stuart monarchical family was replaced by the Stuart family upon the Queen's death. In a show of support for the late queen & her replaced family, the ship carried the "revenge" label.
The Black Pearl was originally called "The Wicked Wench"when she was a Navy ship.
Because they wanted to call it the black pearl. Black pearls come from Tahiti, which is not in the Caribbean, so I guess it was just a whimsy on the part of the movie's script writer.
There is no ship that was used as the black pearl. Most if not all the ships in these movies were built, designed, and painted just for the movie.
Yes, of course there was, but in the movie only. Not in real life.
No, it was made up for the movie.

The Black Pearl. The real ship used in the movie just sank off the coast of SC in "Sandy". She was a movie ship made for the movie Mutiny on the Bounty and for some reason was heading to FLA when the storm hit.
