There is some understandable confusion here. Superman lives in Metropolis, a fictional location based on New York City; its location varies from story to story. In real life there is a Metropolis in Illinois; it is not the city the comic creators imagined, though apparently the city likes to bill itself as "the hometown of Superman" for fun and tourism.
