Griffin's are magical therefore they don't need to eat. A griffin is a symbol of power as well as a symbolic warrior of God. Therefore the beak would be to fight with it's enemies most likely demons etc... they aren't really born, god would just create them as needed or into appropriate size squadrons for the big battles.
Mostly dead rats and ferrets, apparently. That's pretty much all they ever feed Buckbeak the hippogriff. But I would imagine a hippogriff's diet in the wild would consist of all sorts of small mammals, and possibly lizards or frogs, as well.
