What are satyrs in Percy Jackson?

Satyrs are men with hairy goat legs and pointed goat ears and hooves for feet.

Their powers include:

• Can detect half-bloods and monsters by scent
• Can control plants and insects by playing music of their reed pipes
• Can talk to animals
• Can sense emotions of demigods and of mortals
• Woodland magic
• When they die, they are reincarnated as plants, such as Laurels

Most satyrs go to Camp Half-Blood to either become a searcher (one who searches for potential half-bloods and brings them to camp) or they are sent in search of Pan, a god of the Wild that disappeared long ago. The satyrs wish for him to return to restore nature to it's fullest.

Grover Underwood is a well known satyr in the Percy Jackson and Olympians series.

He is the first satyr to find the god Pan, who was located in a nature paradise. Pan fades soon after this and gives his role of being the Wild god to Grover Underwood.
