What are the best Pokémon to have in Pokémon HeartGold?

For me personally, it is Mew. Although there are many other fabulous Pokemon like Lugia or Typhlosion. Another one is Charzard. For me Its ho-oh the three legendary dogs charizard and typhlosion :)

Whatever one you like. Most people choose Cyndaquil because it's easier to use for the beginning of the game, and it's a good Fire type for your team. However, all the starters have their advantages and disadvantages, so it really doesn't matter, it's merely personal preference.

There are many Pokemon good to catch. It is not so much what Pokemon you catch but rather how good your team is together. For instance, you could have all of the strongest dragon Pokemon, but one ice enemy, and your entire team will falter. Some good choices include Ampharos, any starter Pokemon, any legendary Pokemon, Dratini, Larvatar, and Lapras.

Chikorita is the hardest. If you want a challenge, go for it. It's mainly defensive and it's weak to many Gym Leaders and Elite 4 members, as Grass has 5 weaknesses. But, it's good at what it does, and it's not bad.

Cyndaquil is the second easiest. It's effective to many Gym Leaders, and it has good attacks and good special attack. Also, it's the fastest out of all the Johto Starters.

Totodile is the easiest one to go with. It has good moves, good stats, and it will help you immensly against Dragon bosses, which there are quite a few. That's because it has Ice moves.

Chikorita is the easiest to raise but has many weaknesses. Cyndaquil is simple because none of the Johto Gym Leaders have a type weakness for it however Whitney's Miltank would be able to beat it with its Rollout move due to its Rock typing. Totodile is a great starter because it has barely any weaknesses, has great special and main attack and defense, high HP and good moves so the best starters would be Cyndaquil or Totodile.
