"Marvel" is a comic book company that created such superheros as spiderman, daredevil, fantastic four and others. 'DC' stands for Detective Comics and is marvels rival company. they created the superheroes superman, batman and others.
They're like HEB and Walmart; Longhorns and Aggies; Nintendo and X-box--- they're the EXACT same thing, just with different creators and people running everything Behind the Scenes. Sure, if MARVEL and DC teamed up, they could take over the comic indusrty and beyond, the greatest thing the world's ever seen--- but that could never hapen. They're sibling rivalries. Yet, everyone has their favorites. (GO MARVEL!) ;] Another answer:
They are two competing companies in the comic book industry.
The Marvel universe includes characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, etc.
The DC universe includes characters like: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc.
Marvel and DC have totally different characters, plots and villains.
Marvel's heroes are: Spiderman; The X Men; Iron Man; Captain America; The Hulk; The Fantastic Four etc.
DC's heroes are: Superman; Batman; Flash; Nightwing; Wonder Woman; Green Lantern; Martian Manhunter; Aquaman etc.
Dc came first, and have really epic heroes, where Marvel has some of the cooler villians, but Hero wise, Dc has the better heroes. And they're comic have a lot less filler as appose to Marvel.

Dc characters are complex and realistic (in general), whereas Marval characters are (generally) pretty much flawless. Compare Batman to iron man , for example, or Superman to Thor DC comics are almost infinitely better written.
In the end there similarities outweigh there difference. Both marvel and DC are more story driven, and interconnected between what happens between on series of a comic and another than other comicbook franchises such as darkhorse or image, which are mostly just pretty pictures (though they are stunning) and stories that are changed just enought to 1. bring them curret, and 2. Avoid plagiarism charges.
As for diffrences between DC and Marvel here much like most of this is my opinion. Marvel has better heros with more indepth and realistic problems, hopes, desires, stuggles and sacriflices however with a few marked exceptions the villans are more or less 2 dimensional.
The exact opposite can be said for DC which has fantastic villains and heros with about as much depth to them as a bowl of soup.
In the end the only diffrence I can say without being colored my my own opinion is this. Marvel uses the real world as it's primary backdrop. It's heros are in new york and L.A. and as such deals more directly with real world problems. Every major war every significant event in our world is often presented in marvel.
D.C. does not use our world as it's main backdrop. It's heroes fight in Gotham or Metropolis. And while real world events have an impact the world it is often less of a forefront.
Marvel is the company that is owned by Disney that is responsible for Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Avengers, Captain America and The Fantastic Four and DC Comics is the comic book company that is responsible for Superman, Batman, Martian Manhunter, The Justice League of America, The Justice Society of America, The Legion of Superheroes, Lex Luthor, Brainiac, General Zod, Doomsday, Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Saturn Girl, Stargirl and Doctor Fate.
Well dc has many more characters but marvel makes you feel like you are there such as in falcon and the Winter soldier there was so much truth not only in the racism with sam giving up the shield because Steve couldn’t see that usa would never have a black man as Captain America but also so with buck suffering from ptsd from what he did and also with John walker trying to live up to Steve Rogers as the new captain America

No. DC's first comic book title was Detective Comics #1 (which is what "DC" originally stood for) in 1937. Marvel Comics #1 (featuring the Sub-Mariner and the Human Torch) was published in 1939, by Timely Comics, a few months after DC published Action Comics #1 (with the first Superman story). The company changed its name from Timely Comics to Atlas Comics in the 1950s, and to Marvel Comics in 1962.
