There are a number of red items, some are solid red, some have red 'sparkles' around them. The red walls, candleabras and such are items you can affect, destroy or open with the Incendio spell you will learn in year 1.
Red sparkle items can only be opened/destroyed with a dark magic character, ie. Tom Riddle, Voldemort, Bellatrix....
