What conflicts does Gandalf have?

He doesn't really have too many conflicts, although I think he has some scheduling conflicts. In the Hobbit, if Gandalf had been with Bilbo and the dwarves throughout the whole story, problems could have been more in proportion.

The conflict in The Lord of the Rings is that Frodo has been cursed with the One Ring that will bring darkness to all of Middle-earth if anyone were to claim it and use it for any kind of power whether they think it good or evil. The Dark Lord now knows that his One Ring has been found, and he is endlessly searching for it while at the same time declaring war on other 'countries' you could say. Frodo has been instructed by Gandalf the wizard to bring the Ring to the very place where it logically should never be - Mount Doom in Mordor, the home of the Dark Lord. This is the only place that the Ring can be destroyed, and it is the only hope of the survival of Middle-earth. Frodo must now pass from the peaceful Shire to the evil land of Mordor, while bearing the heavy weight of the Ring. He passes through several obstacles and almost doesn't make it at the end.
