Which date was used depended on what region of Europe one was located in and which calendar was in use in that region.
In the days of Charles 1, John Pym was the senior figure in the House Of Commons, what is known nowadays as the Leader of the House. A Puritan, he was against the King, and probably the biggest thorn in his side.
