Before he became an actor Johnny Depp played lead guitar in a band called 'The Kids' which changed its name to 'Six Gun Method' when they relocated to L.A.
When the band didn't become immediatly successful, Johnny took on other jobs such as being a petrol station attendant and telemarketing ballpoint pens. He and his wife at that time (Lori Anne Anderson-makeup artist and sister of the band's drummer) struggled financially until their divorce, after which Johnny went on to act in 21 Jump Street as Officer Tom Hanson. His first acting job was as Glen Lance on Nightmare on Elm Street and was a small role-he was the heroin's (Nancy) highschool boyfriend.
