Rowan Atkinson's first two jobs were in 1979, on the television series, "Canned Laughter", and the BBC-2's "Not the Nine o'Clock News", from 1979-1982, in that order. However it is not clarified as to whether his first job on stage, a year earlier, was a paying "gig, for "Beyond a Joke" in 1978. He was known as the youngest "one-man-show" in London's West End at the age of 26, in 1981, which would have set him at the age of 23 for the stage part, prior to his television, film, and radio career. There is, however, mention of revue "work" at some point in the 70's, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and London's Hampstead theatre.
