That was the class - to learn to resist the imperious curse. Presumably "Professor Moody" got a special permission to use the otherwise forbidden curse.
He repeatedly put the curse on Harry because Harry was the only student showing some sign of immunity against it and 'Moody' was determined to make him be able to throw it off completely. It can also be argued that he just wanted to hurt Harry since he was actually Barty Crouch Jr.
