Physically, It is believed (by me,) that Hogwarts was never built. it quotes in the books that the founders of the castle were Godric Griffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin. Remember, we're in the wizarding world here, and these are the greatest wizards and witches of the age known. the four founder magicked up Hogwarts, using their wands, and a bit of muggle hard-slog. as it also states in the films, that Salazar Slytherin BUILT a chamber of secrets within the castle. This gives the impression the some HP fans that these four built Hogwarts. ~hope this helps~

Reminder: Hogwarts is a ficticious place. The wizards and witches that appear in the Harry Potter stories are also ficticious, as are the spells used.According to the story, Hogwarts is protected by several charms, including disillusionment charms. A muggle will not see Hogwarts as a wizard sees it; he will just see old ruins. Also, once he approaches protected places (like Hogwarts), he will suddenly remember that he has something urgent to do elsewhere.Reminder: Hogwarts is a ficticious place.
