Ingenue- it"s an old word of French origin and is pronounced ( Ann- Junn-new) in American usage. may be related to ( Ingenious) but that is not what it means. Unlike Leading lady- or Prima Donna- which can be of any age- the Ingenue is a young lady- a maiden or Mademoiselle.
