If you have defeated the karate guy in a battle he gives you an odd keystone and i quote..."Dont say anything. Just take it." "(Player's name) obtained odd keystone"(But i think you have to get all 8 badges). Just try to get the odd keystone from him before 8 badges and see if it works.
