Like most of Roald Dahl's books, Quentin Blake is the illustrator.
When James is orphaned, he is sent to live with two vicious and cruel aunts. One day, James is given a magical concoction by a mysterious man, who advises that if he drinks it, he will be happy with great adventures. He spills the concoction onto a peach tree outside the home and the tree becomes charmed, growing a peach the size of a house. As one might expect, the horrible aunts take advantage of the giant peach financially and continue to abuse James. One day, he ventures inside the peach and meet a group of gigantic bug explorers, who like James are ripe for adventure. Suddenly, the peach begins to roll away and James and the crew embark on amazing adventures.
In the movie there like shocked and surprised to see the peach grow into a giant.

since miss spider has a french-like accent she's probably from france.
Actually the weight of the peach made it move so it wasn't so much the insects wanted to roll downhill like they did. After the ride to the ocean they decided to go to NYC and the adventures began.

Sounds like the it is from the story James and the Giant Peach. James attaches spider webs to sea gulls to escape sharks eating the peach floating in the ocean and they pull him up out of the water.
