In part one we learn many things about the main character Paul Fisher. In the beginning he moves from Houston, Texas to Tangerine Florida. We learn that the Fishers are a pretty wealthy family. The first night they arrive Paul notices a smoke, and they learn that it is a muck fire. The next day Paul arrives home and meets the Mr. Costello. Mrs. Fisher is also eager to get Paul back into school, so they have a tour of the Lake Windsor Schools. We learn that the setting of Tangerine county and the Lake Windsor Schools is in contrast with Lake Windsor Downs. As time passed we learn of Erik Fisher Football Dream, Paul's brother. We also learn that Mr. Fisher is obsessed over this, and he is unaware of other things. Paul then has his first day of school, and while boarding the bus, he has a flashback of people calling him Eclipse Boy. As time passes we learn that Erik is very self centered, and that Arthur is willing to do anything to be involved in the Erik Fisher Football Dream. Mrs. Fisher is soon given the job with the homeowners association, and she is becoming controlling about things that don't meet the regulations. Paul then goes to the Soccer tryouts, and people notice Paul's protective glasses, and call him mars. We learn that Paul is the Weird person here.The next day at football practice Mike Costello is shot through the heart by lightning, and killed. Erik and Arthur think of this event as a good thing. Now Mrs. Fisher and others are becomes mad because even though Mike dies, football practice still goes on, in the dangerous lightning. Mrs. Fisher then has a meeting about this at her house, and Mr. and Mrs. Fisher are in disagreement with each other. Paul is then kicked off the soccer team at Lake Windsor Middle School because of his IEP. People then go to Mike's funeral, and Joey Costello tells Paul that life goes on. Joey and Paul then go to the carnival, and they see a dangerous gan with guns. Or so Joey thinks. The next few days a sinkhole happen, and Paul acts like a hero. We learn that Paul now thinks that his as actually "something." The next day the sink hole is all over CNN news. The reader is then informed about the effects of the sinkhole, and Old Charlie is now busted for not doing his job and Mr. Fisher got his job. There is then a meeting, and at the end Paul decides to transfer to Tangerine Middle School. We learn that Paul will be able to play soccer there.
