In his autobiography (only recently out), Arnold Schwarzenegger says that when he was a young adult he and a friend tried to translate the his name into english, and what they came up with was "black corner", "although black plow man was closer." So, it sounds to me like the translation doesn't really have a fluid meaning back and forth from German to English. From what I read from a different source, translated names can sometimes be confusing because the name in the original language may contain one or more meanings in the first place, so it's difficult to claim exactly what it would mean in another language. I haven't finished reading it yet, so maybe Arnold will say more about it once he gets to America in the book. You should buy a copy; it's really good so far.
