The philosopher's stone doesn't do anything to Harry Potter. He managed to get it out of the Mirror of Erised and then it stayed in his pocket until Albus Dumbledore saved him (and the stone).

The Sorcerer's Stone, or the Philosopher's Stone within the UK edition of the Harry Potter series has the power to turn any metal to gold and is the vital ingredient required to create the Elixir of Life, which if taken regularly will allow the drinker to become immortal.

The last known creator of the Sorcerer's Stone is Nicolas Flamel, who in the first Harry Potter book, reached the age of 666 before dying, after agreeing that the stone be destroyed to stop the possibility of it being used to resurrect Voldemort.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is the title of the first book in the series. In the US this was changed to the Sorcerer's Stone.

The Philosopher's Stone is a major part of the plot in the first book. Harry and his friends must stop Lord Voldemort from stealing the stone and returning to power.

There were two main advantages for owning the Philosopher's(Sorcerer's Stone). One would be that with it, you can make the Elixir of Life, a potion that extends the life of the drinker. The other would be that you would be able to turn any metal into gold.
