How do you set up a tattoo machine as a shader?
To set a liner you have to install a small μμF rated capacitor, thick guage springs, and a light armature bar. To set a shader you have to install a large μμF rated capacitor, thin guage springs, and a heavy armature bar. The smaller the capacitor rating the faster the discharge from the cap, hence a faster cycles per second (cps). The tighter (thicker) the spring the less give it has and returns to it's starting position hence a faster cps. The lighter the armature bar the less effort on the spring to pull it back up increasing the cps. The inverse is also true for a shader set up. The gap between the contact screw and the spring is an old "fix all" solution that is outdated. The gap can be as wide open or closed as you want it as long as the tune is set. With the advancements in capacitor technology and the ability to cut springs of different guages it has changed the way you set a machine. This worked when all you had was one guage for springs and used whatever cap (if any) you could find. If it works for you wide open to line or shade it's how you work and that should be enough.

There is no one good combination; it depends on your playing style. However, I find that the following works well for me: Primary Wpn-Arc Caster; Secondary Wpn-Fusion Cutter; Power-Up-Regenerate/Vehicle Auto-Repair; Health-Lvl 2; Speed-Lvl 1; Capture Rate-Lvl 1. I'm more of the unique strategy/melee type, so I use the arc caster to clear out groups of enemies (up to 4 in a one-hit kill!) near CPs; I then activate the Regenerate Power-Up in case any others show up while I take the CP. The fusion cutter, while dealing no damage, allows me to fix my vehicles and turrets so I can use them, to devastating effect, against the enemy.
