It was Hedy Lamarr, "Godmother of the Cellphone."
Lamarr and composer George Antheil developed a secret communication system intended to make it harder for the enemy to detect or jam radio-guided torpedoes.
The system used slotted paper rolls similar to player-piano rolls to synchronize the frequency changes in transmitter and receiver. It also would have utilized 88 frequencies, exactly the number of keys on a full-size piano.
Lamarr & Antheil received US Patent 2,292,387 on August 11, 1942; they immediately and voluntarily handed the patent over to the US Military to be used as it pleased.
The concept saw its first wide scale use in military operations in 1962. Today, the frequency-hopping idea is still widely used in military communications as well as cordless phones, cellular phones, and WiFi networks.
Hedy Lamarr received recognition for her pioneering work in 1997 when the Electronic Frontier Foundation presented her with a special award at the 6th Annual Pioneer Awards.

While working as a model in New York City, Lucille Ball posed for a painting in an elegant dress. The painter later added in two greyhounds for a touch of class. At the last minute, an agent for Eddie Cantor's "Roman Scandals", a Hollywood movie to be filmed, approached Lucille. She said they for the movie, they were using 12 well-known poster girls, and one girl had dropped out. So, Lucille was cast, and ever since, she remained in Hollywood.

The Japanese invented a air dropped torpedo with wooden fins that permitted it to work in shallow water. Most torpedoes dropped from planes go several feet under water before they level off. The new torpedoes with wooden fins were able to operate in the shallow water of Pearl Harbor and sink (or damage) many ships. Early bombs dropped from planes were not as accurate at hitting a ship as torpedoes, so torpedoes were the preferred method of attacking ships early in WWII.
