He was mainly influenced by his Guru, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. As with every great personality, Vivekananda learnt his basics from his religious mother and his father. His schooling at some of the best Calcutta schools exposed him to some of the leading Western minds of his times. But it was his Guru who showed him the great liberating ideas of Vedanta and the necessity to implement it in daily life.
