Evangelist Juanita Bynum made her first public appearance on Tuesday night since her husband's arrest on charges of assaulting her -- first to reporters in Bulkhead, then to a national television audience, where Bynum promised to be the "new face of domestic violence."

Bynum said she had a lot of time to think about what had happened while she was in seclusion -- and she said it is too early to say if she'll stay with her husband. For now, she said she's concentrating on herself.

"Today, domestic violence has a face and it is Juanita Bynum," Bynum said.

Standing before cameras, Bynum declared she is not a damsel in distress, and wanted to say so for the record.

"I forgive my husband and I wish him the best," Bynum said.

Bishop Thomas Weeks is charged with felony aggravated assault, terroristic threats and simple battery against his wife. Both are co-founders of Global Destiny Church, and were separated.

The couple got into a physical altercation last month after an argument outside an airport hotel. Bynum addressed the incident.

"Relationships are what they are," Bynum said. "Relationships have their difficult moments. And until that night in the parking lot, I recognized it was just going to be a difficult moment -- that this was a crisis."

Bynum would not say how often or how long the abuse had taken place in the relationship. She said there is a more important social issue at hand.

"I believe domestic violence will be my new mantle," Bynum said. "There is no way that I can just diminish this to just an isolated incident. This has changed my life forever."

She also had a message to her parishioners and to other women.

"This too shall pass," Bynum said. "Everything that I've been through, it'll pass and is purposeful."

Bynum said she hasn't seen too many celebrities or high profile people speaking out against domestic violence. That is one of the reasons, she said she came forward.

Bynum was a former hairdresser and flight attendant. She married Thomas Weeks in 2002 in a televised wedding. The two co-founded the Global Destiny International Centre in Duluth.

Weeks is out of jail on a $40,000 bond for the assault. He is due back in court later this week. He told his congregation, according to published reports, that the devil made him do it. Now we are going to listen to a similar report but on the same subject but different words.

I don't have any articles to base this answer on but I saw on the news that he had cheated on her with another Colombian Model. They had split up and then he "realized" that his family is more important and he reconciled with her and now is more family oriented with his two daughters. Hence the making of his latest album: La vida Es un Ratico. The album represent what he was going through with his wife and the Reconciliation they had.
