Do you have to beat the elite four twelve times to catch mew?

No. The only way to catch mew is by using cheats, trading, or by going to a Nintendo Event with wireless and Mystery Event enabled. No. Your starter pokémon has to be lvl. 100 and you need to beat the elite four (just once). Catching Mew works exactly the same way as catching Entei, Suicune or Raikou. Use max repel and keep leaving and entering a random field until you find him. that's not true i read this trained him and mew never came up u can only get from trade or cheats and events
