The Harry Potter series shows readers both the benefits and the drawbacks of keeping secrets. Snape shows us how beneficial it can be to hold secrets from dangerous people. In the end, his ability to keep secrets from the right people allows the good to vanquish the evil. Harry shows us again and again how keeping secrets is often hurtful. He keeps secret knowledge [dreams he's had, the info he gets from Riddle's diaries, etc] from adults such as Dumbledore. Doing so prevents him from getting help that could have made his way much easier. On the one hand, this makes Harry stronger in that he handled things himself. On the other, it shows how the inability to trust others and to delegate can impedge progress.

He uses it defending Professor McGonagall when Amycus the death eater/teacher spat at her. It is in the chapter called: The Sacking Of Severus Snape. In the UK version it is pg.477 but I don't know about the US version sorry.
