If you read the first few books, you know harry saved Ginny from a basilisk in the first book. She was posessed by Voldemort, and was forced into helping the basilisk kill people. After Harry saves her in a dramatic battle against Voldemort, who was reincarnated from a diary, and the basilisk, Ginny has a minor role as a young girl who is in live with Harry for the next few book. later, she is member of the DA (Dunbledore's Army) which Hary created, and he helps her with spells.
Finally, Ginny and Harry being to date, kiss, etc. However, Harry breaks up with her because he is afraid that Voldemort will use her to get to him. Finally, Harry defeats Voldemort, and Ginny and harry get married and have children.
