No a Pokemon cannot die only faints in battle if its hp is all gone but there are gravesites in all of the games telling of dead Pokemon but it is just a myth your Pokemon can catch a disease called pokerus but it is very rare to get and actually does good for your Pokemon it causes them to get double the ev points froma battle

well in a episode of Pokemon charmander is found abandened in a rock and if i remember right brock or the pokedex says that if charmanders flame on his tail ever went out then he would die !

In games, pokemons don't die, they faint, although in Platinum, Diamond and Pearl, the Lost Tower cemetery contains dead Pokemon. It is unkown that pokemons die of something other than battling, even though in the first movie of Pokemon it shows Pokemons and their clones near death after a brutal fight. Take Pokemons in lv100, for instance, thay are still living in the games. If you have seen the Rise Of Darkrai movie, Darkrai didn't die at the end or the middle of the movie. He had lived for over 100 years from the past. Incredible, right?
