The story is about a girl called Ginger Brown. When she was in primary school, she was over weight and bullied because of that fact. But Life wasn't all that bad. She had a friend called Emily who used to try and cheer her up most of the time.

Now she is starting High School. She has lost weight and feels good about herself. She finds a girl called Shannon, well, she seems like a friend. Ginger has given up on her other life; being uncool having no friends, being like one of the dorks. Now she is popular. Now she has thrown away her puppy fat and piggy tails for hair straighteners and makeup and won't turn back until now. Finally someone notices her. The boy with the curly hair and the trilby hat who writes on his jeans with Whiteout. She stars to like him and wants to be his friend. But she doesn't want to loose Shannon and she is afraid she won't approve. Is the guy in with the hat a better friend than Shannon?
