No. Otherwise the characters make little sense and the story line is unclear. What?!?! NO!! You read the first book first! That's why it's first!! (Just in Case: Lightning Thief is first)
In chapter 5 of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, Bilbo escapes from the greedy hands of Gollum. When Gollum realizes that chasing Bilbo is futile, he shouts this last line at Bilbo: "Thief, thief, thief! Baggins! We hates it, we hates it, we hates it for ever!," thus calling Bilbo both 'Thief' and 'Baggins.'

Answer: I'm srry spiderwick chronichles fans, but lightning thief is way better Answer: I agree, spiderwick is way too short and lightning thief has a better story line Answer: I believe this is a matter of opinion, so I tell you honestly that I enjoyed The Lightning Thief much more than the the Spiderwick Chronicles. The reasons for this is: 1. The Lightning Thief has a deeper, more complex, and more interesting plot line.2. TLT is a better length and is split up into chapters better.3. TLT is simply "better written" by an author with more experience.4. TLT is funnier.5. TLT has a great balance of dialogue and regular writing.6. TLT gives better descriptions and has more "real" characters.
As the Percy Jackson series is still a fairly new series, it cannot be read legally on line yet.
One example of assonance in "The Lightning Thief" is in the line: "I had just vaporized my math teacher." The repeated long 'a' sound in "vaporized" and "math" creates an assonant effect. Another example is in the line: "Annabeth swiped the notebook from my hands and paged through it." The repeated short 'a' sound in "swiped" and "hands" is another instance of assonance.
