The eighth gym in Pokemon HeartGold is in Blackthorn City. To get there, you go to Mahogany Town and you go right past the guy with the RageCandy bars and onto the route there. Hint: The man with the RageCandy bars will not let you pass until you disband Team Rocket. Then you have to go through Ice Path and......BOOM!! You're in Blackthorn City. I'll warn you though, Ice Path is tricky!
to get at the 8th badge at blackthorn city u have to go to ice path and try to find a way to reach blackthorn city.
Fly to Mahogany town and walk east onto route 44. You can avoid all the trainers if you wish but fight them for the EXP points, the next gym is a dragon type gym! Go to the end and enter the Ice path.

The Ice Path is a pretty big dungeon to go through, and it involves a lot of slip-sliding across the ice in order to get through it. When you walk on a tile of ice, you'll slide in the direction you're facing until you hit something or land on the snow. Just keep that in mind when getting through.Slip n' Slide Puzzle #1

To get through the first puzzle, follow these directions:

  1. Slide Up
  2. Slide Left
  3. Slide Up
  4. Slide Left
  5. Slide Down
  6. Slide Left
  7. Slide Up
  8. Slide RightThe next puzzle that you'll need to solve will net you HM07 (Waterfall). Don't worry, you won't forget it, because a guy will be blocking the path and won't let you proceed until you get him his HM07 down beneath him, so go down there and get the item to his south if you're having problems getting through! He'll let you keep it afterwards though. Slip n' Slide Puzzle #2
  9. Here's how you slide to get to the HM:

    1. Slide Right
    2. Slide Up
    3. Slide Left
    4. Slide Down
    5. Slide Left
    6. Slide Up
    7. Slide Right

After that you'll go into the basement. From here, you will need to push all of the boulders into the holes. Make sure you don't mess any up and get them stuck against a wall or something (just go up or downstairs to reset their positions), and for some of them, you may need to push them a bit of a distance, but ideally you should have all four boulders pushed down the holes.Drop the Rocks!

In order to slide around properly in the next basement, you'll need to drop down some rocks into the holes you see. There are four rocks; one for each hole. How do you push the rocks to the right places? Here's how you can solve this puzzle.Western Rock (Top)Western Rock (Bottom)This is the top-left rock that is right next to another rock.

    1. From on the right side of it, push it to the left 2 times.
    2. Push it up until it hits that block of ice.
    3. Do not fall down the hole! Walk around the perimeter of the thick ice bit in the middle of the room, going around until you're on the other side of the hole.
    4. Now push that boulder to the right once, then push it down into the hole.
This is the bottom-right rock that is right next to another rock.
    1. Push the boulder right once.
    2. Push it down three times.
    3. Now push it to the right until it is one space above and one space to the left of the hole.
    4. Walk south of the hole and sneak over behind the rock, then push it down one space and then right one space so it falls down the hole.
Middle RockEastern RockThis is the rock that is in the center of the room.
    1. Push it up until it hits the icy rock.
    2. Push it to the right until it hits another icy rock.
    3. Walk over behind it and then push it up until it is lined up with the hole (should be up three times).
    4. Push it twice to the left so it falls down the hole.
This is the rock on the southeastern side of the room.
    1. Walk behind the boulder and push it to the left once.
    2. Push it down until it hits the icy rock.
    3. Walk around and push it once to the left.
    4. Push it down three spaces, so it is one tile farther south than the hole is. You'll need to be able to get out of that section you're stuck in, that's why.
    5. Now push it up once and then push it to the left until it falls down the hole.

Then fall down one of the holes and you'll enter B2F, which has a ton of ice to slide around on and only a few rocks here and there to stop you. You'll need to slide onto the boulders you shoved down from B1F in order to get to the ladder leading down in the middle of the room.

From the stairs, slide over so you hit the boulder you dropped down, then slide down, then left, then up, and then just walk over to the stairs, picking up the Full Heal if you'd like.

Lastly you'll reach B3F. Down here you can pick up some NeverMeltIce by using Rock Smash on the rocks right near the stairs, or you can just get it by walking a bit. Either way, there's not much down here for you, so climb up the stairs on the other side of the room.

You're now on another part of B2F. There's more ice for you to slide around on. Slide on over to the eastern side of the room and then walk up so you're on the non-icy patch.

Make sure you're just one space away from the cliff to your left, then slide down. You'll hit a rock. Slide to your right and pick up TM72 (Avalanche), which is great to teach to one of your Pokemon if it can learn it (it's probably a little bit better than Ice Fang is on Feraligatr). You'll definitely want to make sure you have some Ice-type Pokemon or attacks before leaving this place, because they're the best medicine against the powerful Dragon-type Pokemon you're going to have to fight before too long.

Up the next ladder, at another part of B1F, there's an Iron waiting for you if you can get to it. It's really easy to get. Just walk over and push the boulder down one square with Strength. After you've done that, walk back to the ice, slide on it so you hit the bottom wall, walk over until you hit the icy rock by the item, slide up, slide left so you hit the boulder, and then slide down to claim your prize, the Iron.

Make your way back upstairs so you're at 1F again. There's a Protein just to your north, so go ahead and pick that up. Then make your way south. You'll find that there's a fifth and final Kimono Girl there waiting for you, stuck to the ice. You will need to push her from behind in order to free her from the ice.Slip n' Slide Puzzle #3

Kimono GirlPP UpIn order to get to the Kimono Girl, follow these directions:

    1. Enter the ice on the right-side, hitting the icy rock right in front of you.
    2. Slide left.
    3. Slide down.
    4. Slide right.
    5. Press A to push the Kimono Girl forward.
    6. Slide down and you'll be through the puzzle.
In order to get to the PP Up, you'll need to follow these directions instead:
    1. Enter the ice on the right-side, hitting the icy rock right in front of you.
    2. Slide left.
    3. Slide down.
    4. Slide left.
    5. Slide up.
    6. Slide right.
    7. Slide down.
    8. Slide right.
    9. Slide down and pick up the PP Up.

After freeing the Kimono Girl and sliding out, that's it! You should be at the exit now! What're you waiting for, Trainer? Get going to Blackthorn City!

That's pretty much it. There's the Dragon's Den behind the Gym on the northern side of town, but you won't be able to enter it just yet. When you're done, make your way into the Gym!Blackthorn GymTrainers at Blackthorn GymAce Trainer Paulo$2100DratiniLv. 35

All of the Trainers in here use either Dratini, Dragonair, Horsea, or Seadra. Dratini and Dragonair are really weak to Ice- and Dragon-type attacks, but since you are more likely to have Ice-type attacks than Dragon-type attacks, that leaves them with only one viable weakness. They're also resistant to Fire-, Water-, Grass-, and Electric-type attacks! The Horseas and Seadras aren't part Dragon-type, so just fry 'em with Electric- or Grass-type attacks.Sliding Platform Solution

Getting through the Blackthorn Gym can be a little interesting. They really souped up the puzzle in here. Now you'll have to guide platforms over pools of lava by using buttons on them: left, right, and rotate (middle button). Rotating the platform will rotate it, whereas pressing left or right (which turn into up or down when rotated) will move the platform in that direction. You may not be able to rotate the platform if it would hit a wall or object, too.

Stuck trying to get through to the Gym Leader, Clair? Well here's how you can move the platform across the lava:First PuzzleSecond Puzzle

    1. Move the platform left.
    2. Rotate it twice (with the blue button).
    3. Move the platform right.
    1. Move the platform up once.
    2. Rotate it once.
    3. Move it to the right.
    4. Rotate it twice.
    5. Move it to the right.
    Third Puzzle
    1. Move the platform left once.
    2. Rotate it once.
    3. Move it right once.
    4. Rotate it once.
    5. Move it up three times.
    6. Rotate it once.
    7. Move it right once.
    8. Rotate it once.
    9. Move it up twice.

Before taking on the third and final puzzle, you might want to go heal up your Pokemon, because your next fight will be against the Gym Leader, Clair.

After you've gotten through the puzzle, you'll be able to take on Clair for your final Gym Badge! Make sure you save your game before taking her on, because she may be a bit tricky.Boss FightLeader Clair$4920Gyarados / Lv. 38

The 8th Gym is in Sootopolis City. It's in the middle of a large crater, which you can only access by diving and entering underwater from the south end of the crater. Return to the surface while inside, and you've made it to Sootopolis. The gym will not be immediately accessible. You will have to complete some plot events first.
