This book is about a girl named Bess Brennan. When she was a younger girl she was able to see perfectly. But when she got a little older she went sledding with her twin sister Elin. When she was sledding there was a annoying boy named Brian McManus. He was sledding with a bunch of his friends. When Bess was sledding, Brian noticed her and thought it would be funny to play a joke on her but the joke didn't go the way he planned. The same time as Bess went down the hill he did as well. When she got closer to this big tree he ran into her sled, and she flew into the tree. This caused Bess to go blind. Bess was home schooled for the rest of the year cause she didn't think she could make her way around the school without her eye sight. Since she lives with her uncle, mom, and her twin sister Elin, and her dad died a year or two after she was born. So her mom and uncle decided to send her away to go to Perkins School of the Blind. Bess didn't want to live away from her family, especially her sister. When it was her first day there she found out that her roomates were Amanda and Eva. Amanda is very loud, and talks a lot. Eva doesn't say anything, she is very shy cause she doesn't have a family, so she thinks there is nothing to talk about. Bess becomes very good friends with both of them and learns how to do many things even though she is blind. Not much happens at school but Bess does get to go home once in a while, because the school is so close to her house.
