Subliminal means 'below the level at which you notice it'. There are a lot of wild stories about that, but very little proof, especially in music.

There is a Simpsons episode where Bart and his classmates become a boy band, and have a music video where they're in airplanes and bombing the Middle East. the chorus is "Yvan Et Nioj" and Lisa plays it backwards it says "Join the Navy" Finding any real examples is not easy!

A subliminal message is information that your subconscious receives without you fully realizing that you're receiving it. Because your conscious does not identify that information and therefore does not filter it through your logic, judgment and preferences, the information is accepted as true and acts as a suggestion. When you watch a professional sport, there are usually banners for companies around the field. Sometimes, your subconscious recognizes them and leaves a mental note about that brand.

The subconscious mind receives direction from our thoughts without judgment about the validity. This kind of feedback is given through dreams in the universal language of mind. The subliminal messages actually go into the brain under the heading of unconsciousness. When we are using undivided attention, we control what is being taken into the brain from the five senses. It is the things we are not paying attention to that sneak in without our awareness and can and do sneak back into our thoughts again when there is lack of attention. These stray thoughts which are unnoticed can and do become part of the picture we give to the subconscious mind which then proceeds to re-create what we have planted. This is how so many surprises sneak up on us, from the original lack of attention to the process of creation, and therefore the lack of co-operation with the re-created picture which shows up as our physical experiences. Undivided attention is that important and is what everything else that is productive is built upon.

When I listen to music, for instance I want my full attention on taking it all in so I can appreciate it. I don't like music as background noise. While shopping, it takes extra effort on my part to work with all the noise and advertisements coming over the speakers. This is a sort of subliminal advertising which was supposedly outlawed many years ago. This method relies on creating confusion so that when a person gets home they realize more was purchased than originally intended. If respect was present, we would all have a nice quiet shopping experience.

When you get up from watching tv and leave the sound on while going into another room you are still receiving impulses through the five senses which are recorded in your brain without your permission assuming you are not giving you undivided attention to the commercials. You are better off using undivided attention to a commercial so you can make a decision about the validity and therefore store the information with control. Whenever you remove your attention from the tv, make sure to turn it off .

The use of undivided attention is the only safeguard against this unwanted intrusion.
