It depends on what kind of party you are referring to. There are many types of parties including birthday parties, holiday parties, parties just to "party," and many more. A birthday party can be held for people of any age. The are usually thrown for children and can be anything from a day of bowling to a slumber party at home. A holiday party is held to celebrate holidays, usually Christmas, New Years, the 4th of July, etc. A party just to "party" is usually a party thrown by high school students, college students, and young adults. These college don't have to have any really reason to be thrown, and they usually consist of alcohol and other substances. However, not all parties thrown by those age groups are for that purpose. There are many other types of parties that have other purposes, but those are some pretty popular ones.
