The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be changed from one type of energy into another. All of our energy comes from the Sun. Plants store that energy in the 'food' they make, glucose, a type of sugar, which then gets packaged into larger molecules of starch. Animals eat plants and the energy in the plants is used by the animals which eat the plants to provide the fuel for all the chemical reactions in their body. Then other animals eat the animals which eat the plants and so on and so on. So the energy comes from the Sun, is stored (and used) by plants through photosynthesis, then by organisms which eat the plants and so on.

What is meant by flow of energy?

The flow of energy refers to the movement and transfer of energy through different processes, systems, or organisms in an ecosystem. Energy flows from the sun to producers (plants), then to consumers (herbivores, carnivores), and eventually to decomposers. This flow of energy is essential for sustaining life on Earth.

Why the flow of energy is so important to maintain life on earth?

The flow of energy is essential for sustaining life on Earth because it drives the various metabolic processes required for growth, reproduction, and other vital functions in organisms. It allows nutrients to be converted into usable forms and provides the energy needed for all biological activities.
