The Head Crusher was a medieval torture (or often execution) device. A metal chin rest was attached to a pair of uprights, in turn attached to a crosspiece with a threaded hole in the middle. Through this hole was a threaded rod; on the lower end was a domed 'cap' which rested on the victims head and on the top was a lever for turning the rod and hence lowering it. Depending on the alleged crime, the victim's head could be squeezed inducing much pain, or completely crushed. Sometimes the executioner could take several hours to inflict the punishment by turning the lever little by little, or even bang the lever with a hammer to send shock waves through the device. When used to execute the victim, the lever was turned so far as to completely crush the head. Firstly, the teeth are crushed, then the jaw shatters, the eyes are squeezed from their sockets, then the skull breaks and the victim's brain oozes from what's left.
