What is the Main Idea for the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Last Straw?

The main idea of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw written by Jeff Kinney is that Greg's dad is tired of Greg's lazy and wimpy ways. Greg's father signs him up for soccer but Greg is terrible and his father gets humiliated by a article written in the local newspaper about Greg. Then Greg's father makes the threat of him going to Military School for the entire summer. Though Greg does not really change his wimpy ways his father does not really make him go to Military School. Greg's dad final word on it is "maybe you can just do a few push ups over the summer".

The book ends with Greg getting out of the 7th grade, and being ready for summer. His activities over the summer are chronicled in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days.

The point is mainly that he is trying to impress a girl in his class called holly hills. She is the fourth prettiest girl in his class, but all of the top 3 have boyfreinds. He tries to crash her slumber party, go to the school valentines dance with her and partner with her in the roller blading couple skate. Some of the other points of this book is he is going to be sent to milatary academy, he is forced onto a soccer team (Where he is ranked pre alpha minus), he joins the boy scouts and has to learn to do his own laundry after his uncle charlie buys him a laundry hoop for Christmas.

All in all, I'll go out on a limb here and say that this is the best diary of a wimpy kid to date, but diary of a wimpy kid 5 has not yet been released and that is all about greg and Rowley's (My third favourite character in the books, greg is my favourite closely followed by Rodrick) freindship. This is set to be released in November 2010. And when i said the best wimpy kid yet but i have not seen the new film so not including that.

Greg tries many things to try and fit in at school. First, he fixates on Holly Hills because she is one of the most popular girls. Greg thinks that by going with her he will be vaulted into the cool group. The trouble with this is that she doesn't know who he is and barely acknowledges his presence. Greg also tries to fit in by wearing the same type of clothing as everyone else. On a daily basis he worries that he doesn't have the right shirt, pants, or shoes, and often complains to his parents that they need to buy him the right clothes.
