If you mean the 'moral' of the story- I think she was trying to explain how harsh wars can be on individuals, how it can affect someones relationships (intimate and friendships) and how it can affect them emotionally. However the book implies that one day some people may be put on to Reality TV Shows to fight to the death just for entertainment aswell!! Hope I helped a bit :)
