Get a solid fire,water, and lightning, type. I.E. typhlosion for fire, gyrados for water, raikou for lightning. From there I would just snag some guys you really like with solid moves. For me I chose tyranitar, ursaring and steelix. Each is fairly strong and can know great moves like hyper beam(ursaring can learn thunderpunch,icepunch,and firepunch.)
