Best Starter Pokemon Here are some opinions of the best starter Pokemon in Pokemon Black and White:

  • I added all the stat points and Snivy and its evolutions beat all the other choices. And Tepig is the worst, because its attack and defense are good. But, hey, what's better than speed.
  • Actually, the above is kind of wrong. The stat points of Snivy are higher than the others, but the type advantage is best for Oshawott, then Tepig, and then Snivy.
  • They are all good for good reasons. Based on stats of the Elite Four/Gym Leaders/Champion (not the Pokemon itself), the best is Oshawott and the worst is Snivy. But you don't have to live by that rule. The best (based on stats of the EF/GL/C for HG/SS) was Cyndaquil but I chose Chikorita, and after training it up, I was speeding through the game, so it's your choice; whatever you work best with.
  • Tepig, but as Emboar he can't learn many good moves. He learns, literally, 7 physical moves, and five total special moves. However, he does have the best type advantages, as he can rip through gym 1, 2, 3, and 7 with no help at all.
  • Just pick your favorite type. In past games, there was a best choice based on the first gym leader. In B&W the first gym actually has 3 leaders, and the one you battle is based on your starter.
  • Oshawott is the best - maybe not in the beginning but at the last form it is awesome! Its water attacks can destroy Tepig and its forms and the ice attacks can destroy Snivy and its forms.
  • I suggest Oshawott or Snivy (I prefer Snivy because he can help in badge 5, a very hard one if you don't have the right Pokemon).
  • The Person above is thinking about this all the wrong way. If you would not like to use your master ball in catching The Legendary Then follow this questioner
1. If have Pokemon black move down to question 2 if have Pokemon white move down to Pokemon White go to 3.

2. Pokemon Black legendary in a dragon fire type Pokemon so get rid of the Dragon and you have the most powerful move is Fire and so fire is not very effective against Water I think you should get the Water Starter

3. Pokemon White Legendary is a Dragon Electric type Pokemon so when you get rid of the Dragon part you get its most powerful move of Electric. It is not effective against either grass or fire, but you will hear the explanation for Grass in 4

4. Because of the rumored new Pokemon Gray which is Kyruem a Pokemon found in the Giant Chasm in both Black and White. Because it is a Dragon Ice type Pokemon when you get rid of the Dragon you have Ice and Fire is super effective against Ice so that is the explanation for why have Grass for WhiteQuestioniar Done by JambugexpertNow more of the other guy's Answer:

  • Tepig is a fire type which means it is good against snivy this would for me be the last Pokemon to pick it has qwite a lot of rubbish attacks ,whereas
  • Snivy or Oshawott have a good variety of attacks.
  • Oshawott is a good Pokemon to have it is powerful (especially its last form) has a good defense but weak to Snivey although in its last form it can learn ice and water moves Snivey is faster so could probably knock it out on the first turn but Tepig is really slow, so that would just be a easy target for it.
  • My top starter(s) grass fire and water type would be grass = Treeko, Snivey, fire = Cyndaquil, Chimchar and Tododile, Oshawott.
  • My personal favorite is Tepig.
  • This guy above me's thinking about it wrong. Remember, your starter is not the only Pokemon you'll have for the whole game. If you really care about the legendaries, get Excadrill (Ground and Steel Type) for Zekrom and for Reshiram, get Tirtouga (Water and Rock Type).

However, in terms of the best starter, DON'T CHOOSE SNIVY! I chose it and I seriously regret it. Serperior can only learn Normal and Grass type attacks (as well as Aerial Ace, Dragon Tail and Rock Smash by TM and HM). There are some good defensive strategies you can use with him but other than those, he sucks.

Oshawott is a good choice. It can learn a variety of moves and its stats are aggressive. Its satisfactory defense isn't much of a problem as only 2 types are super effective.

Tepig is also a good choice. It learns a small variety of attacks (more than Serperior) but can learn a huge variety of TMs. It can learn Solar Beam (and Sunny Day), Earthquake, Scald, Wild Charge and many more.

Here are some stats on all of the starters.

All three starters have the same base stat total.

Best base HP- Tepig and family (Oshawott second)

Best base Attack- Tepig and family (Oshawitt second)

Best base Defense- Snivy and family (Oshawott second)

Best base Sp. Attack- Oshawott and family (Tepig second)

Best base Sp. Defense- Snivy and family (Oshawott second)

Best base Speed- Snivy and family (Oshawott second)

5 types are super effective against Snivy, 4 types aren't very effective.

2 types are super effective against Oshawott, 4 types aren't very effective.

3 types are super effective against Tepig, 5 types aren't very effective.

4 types are super effective against Pignite and Emboar, 6 aren't very effective and one of them (Bug) has a double-weakness.

Conclusion: Choose Tepig
