This can vary on preference, but the first gym leader is rock type, and so Mudkip is effective here, as Water beats Rock. this leads on to being able to train that starter Pokemon, so that it will be able to beat anything, regardless of its Type. This is often Regarded as the easy choice. The medium choice would be Treecko (Grass) this is not as effective as water against rock, and so require some training, but is still easily achievable. Torchic (Fire) is the most difficult of the 3 to start with, as fire is not very effective against rock.

Well, it depends on how you wanna play the game.

Chimchar - The most popular starter of all. Chimchar is a strong pokemon, so if you are a beginner and just wanna learn the basics and play easily, Chimchar is for you. But be careful, because the 4th Gym Leader has Gyrados in his team, and if you are playing Pokemon Platinum, it will know Earthquake And Brine, so Chimchar/Monferno will be at a great disadvantage.

Piplup - The 2nd most popular starter of all. Its really okay for battle, so if you already know the basics and wanna have a not too easy or not too hard game, Piplup is the one. His final form, Empoleon, has an extra steel type, thus decreasing a bit of damage from electric type moves. But at the 2nd Gym of grass type, it will be at a great disadvantage. So either teach it Peck, or catch a flying type Pokemon like Starly or Zubat.

Turtwig - The least popular starter of all. It has low speed but high attack and defense. It is the easiest to train but hardest to win in battle because of its low speed, it can get KO-ed before it can win. Its final form, Torterra, is also a ground type. It can learn Earthquake so that it can beat out steel types which grass type is not effective against.

Pick your choice, the easiest, medium or hardest. But in my opinion, I like Piplup because it can take down grass types with its Drill Peck.

the easiest is probably mudkip, although treecko is a close second. the first gym is rock-type and the second is fighting-type. i prefer a Pokemon with multiple types, but it's really up to you.

the starter Pokemon in Ruby are Treeko, Mudkip, and Torchic. You keep whichever one you help Professor Birch with. My favorite is Treeko, but i have played with all of them. Mudkip is the best, except for when you come to the Electric gym. The first gym is Rock, and water is strong against Rock. The second one is Fighting, and water actually isn't to bad. The third gym is Electric, and this is where you need a rock Pokemon. But the fourth is fire, and fire is EXTREMLY weak to water. the fifth gym is Normal Pokemon. A nice Machop would come in handy here, but a Mawile also works to back up your Marshtomp. Norman isn't to difficult. The sixth gym is Flying. Now remember your rock Pokemon from the Electric gym? That is a nice Pokemon to have on hand, as well as an Electric Pokemon. But i taught an ice move to my water Pokemon, and that is helpful! The seventh gym, Physcic is a pushover with your water Pokemon, which you need to teach surf. and BAM that is over with. That Electric Pokemon you have from Winona's gym? Have it here, along with a grass Pokemon. But since the Eighth gym is water, it cant hurt your Swampert to badly. GOOD LUCK
