I personally would have a Charmander as my starter even though its not really effective against the second gym but it does learn metal claw which you can use to beat Brock.
Since you have a fire type you stand no chance against Misty so while in Viridian forest get a pikachu. Also you can use Pikachu to beat your rivals squirtle.
For your 3rd Pokemon get a magikarp because gyrados is really good and it can learn ice type moves to beat lance.
Another good Pokemon is a mankey. Get it early on and it will evolve into a primeape which is really fast and has good attack power. If you don't want a Primeape get a Nidoking. They are really strong and they have poison point. If enemy Pokemon touches it, that Pokemon gets posioned
I would recommend catching an Exeggcute because it evolution is Pyschic and Grass and you can destroy Agatha with it. You need a leaf stone for that.
Lastly i would recommend a pidgeot. They are erally fast and they tear up with their flying moves.
Here is your lineup plus moveset (I would recommend).
Charizard - Flamethrower, Blast Burn, Fire Blast, Overheat
Raichu - Thunder, Thunderbolt, Shock Wave, hyper beam/ iron tail
Primeape - Cross Chop, Karate Chop, Earthquake, Brickbreak
Nidoking(if you want) - Horn Drill, Megahorn, Earthquake, Brick break (choose between these two)
Gyrados - Ice Beam, Surf, Dragon Rage, Hydro Pump
Exeggecute - Giga Drain, Hypnosis, Dream Eater, Pyschic
Pidgeot - Aerial Ace, Fly, Wing attack, Mirror Move or Featherdance
Try this lineup and change some moves if you want but I wrecked with this lineup. Oh and get each Pokemon above lvl. 50
Start with Charmander and beat Brock and catch Pikachu in Viridian Forest
then beat Misty with Pikachu and so on catch a Machop and evolve it into Machamp. Get Eevee and evolve it into Vaporeon. Get an Abra and evolve it into Alakazam.
For Elite 4
Charizard - Flamethrower Fly Dragon Claw Slash
Raichu - Thunder Thunderbolt Thunderwave Rain Dance
Vaporeon - Surf Ice Beam Bite Waterfall
Snorlax- Surf Fire Blast Thunder Body Slam
Machamp- Cross Chop Rock Slide Earthquake Ice Punch
Alakazam - Shadow Ball Psychic Recover Calm Mind
Lorelei - Use Raichu set up a Rain Dance and keep using Thunder
Bruno - Use Surf on Onix and Psychic/ Fly on the other 3
Agatha - Alakazam Psychic
Lance - Ice Beam and Thunderbolt on Gyarados
Gary/Rival - Start with Raichu set up a Rain Dance. Then Thunder Pidgeot and Blastoise then Surf Arcanine and Rhydon Shadow ball Alakazam and finish off Exeggutor with Flamethrower. Rain Dance is effective because it helps on the Surfs and Thunders
