Harry is just an 11 year old orphan who strange things keep happening to. On his 11th birthday, a giant named Rubeus (Ruby-us) Hagrid (Hag-rid) tells him that he's a wizard and he will be going to Hogwarts. Once there, he begins to learn magic. His first friend is Ronald (Ronn-ald, also called Ron) Weasley (Wees-lee), and then when, on Halloween, a troll enters Hogwarts, Harry and Ron save a bossy know-it-all named Hermione Granger (Her-my-knee), and she becomes their friend also. The rest of the book is almost completely devoted to Harry, Ron, and Hermione trying to find out what, where, and who is trying to steal the Sorcerers Stone.
