In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry and his friends, Ron and Hermione, face new challenges. During his sixth-year at Hogwats, Dumbledore has asked Harry to private lessons with him dealing with Tom Riddle's (Voldemort's) past; Dumbledore says these lessons will help Harry defeat Lord Voldemort. Harry has noticed that Dumbledore is badly injured; his right hand has become blackened, and dead looking, yet, dumbledore denys Harry to tell him the truth. In this movie/book Quidditch is back! Harry has become the new Gryffindor captain, and what's new, for the moive, Ron Weasly is the Keeper for the team. Dumbledore appoints a new professor at Hogwarts for the potions job as he give Professor Severus Snape the DADA job.(People say the DADA job's jinxed). As Harry gets use to this change, he finds a used potion book with made up spells and cheats to make potions; apparently it's the property of "The Half-Blood Prince". Meanwhile, Harry grows more suspicous of Draco Malfoy. His absence of tormenting Gryffindors and constantly disappearing off of the Marauders Map makes Harry think he has joined Lord Voldemort and became a Death Eater, like his father. Plus, he thinks Snape has something to do with it. Though Ron and Hermione do not believe Malfoy is doing anything he's not supposed to, Harry still gets a shrewd idea that will shock you at the very end.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is about a sixteen-year-old boy named Harry Potter, who is a wizard attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with his classmates. Harry believes that one of them, a boy named Draco Malfoy, has become a Death Eater, a servant of an evil wizard called Lord Voldemort. However, Harry has no proof, and therefore watches Malfoy all year for signs that his theory is correct. Harry is also suspicious of one of the teachers, Professor Snape. Harry believes that Snape is a Death Eater as well, and keeps a close eye on him. Meanwhile, Harry takes private lessons with Professor Dumbledore, the headmaster, where they literally dive into memories and try to unlock Lord Voldemort's past so that he may be defeated. Harry finds out that Voldemort has fractured his very soul seven times and hidden the pieces in six objects, called Horcruxes, that must be found and destroyed if he is ever to be killed. It is Harry's responsibility to locate these Horcruxes because, when Harry was a baby, Voldemort tried to murder him because of a prophecy that said that a boy born at the end of July (Harry's birthday) would be the only one with the power to vanquish Lord Voldemort. Harry survived thanks to his mother: she died in an effort to save her son, and therefore set a powerful protection on him that caused Voldemort to lose his power when he attempted to kill Harry. Now that Voldemort has marked Harry as his equal, as the prophecy says, and risen to power again, Harry is the only one who will be able to finish Voldemort once and for all.

He escapes the tyranny of the Dursley's early in the summer when Dumbledore picks him up to attend to a mysterious errand. Harry ends up persuading ex-professor Horace Slughorn to come out of retirement to teach at Hogwarts again. Harry thinks Horace Slughorn will be the defence against the dark arts teacher, but it turns out that Severus Snape finally achieved his burning ambition to become Defence Against the Dark Arts professor.

Sirius died in the end of the fifth book, and leaves Kreacher, the house elf to him, and his house, number 12 Grimmauld place.

Also, he's been made Quidditch Team Captain. Harry is excited to be taking private lessons with Dumbledore this year, who is showing him all about Voldemort's past. Dumbledore hopes that knowing as much as he can about Voldemort will help Harry in his final battle with the Dark Lord.

As the year speeds by Harry and Ron both are amazed at their blossoming love life, and Harry especially falls hard for someone he knows he shouldn't. His lessons with Dumbledore continue sporadically, and he's excited to hear that he might be able to go with Dumbledore on a dangerous mission to help destroy a part of Voldemort's soul, one of his Horcruxes.

Things reach a frantic pace when several things happen at once. Harry and Dumbledore leave on their mission, Malfoy's dark plot finally works and he is able to sneak in Death Eaters to attack the school, and a fierce battle takes place between the students, members of the Order, and the Death Eaters. Harry and Dumbledore return only to get trapped on the Astronomy Tower where, to Harry's devastation, Snape kills Dumbledore when Draco couldnt.

Dumbledore's death is a fierce blow to Harry, but it enables him to see clearly what his true mission is. He resolves that he will not return to Hogwarts again, but instead set off to destroy the remaining fragments of Voldemort's soul. He is bolstered when Ron and Hermione insist on going with him, and as soon as Dumbledore's funeral is off they agree to start their journey together.
