Compared to the remainder of the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone has a relatively light, whimsical tone. It has much of the same charm as a Roald Dahl classic. Despite the occasionally dark subject matter, the diction and tone itself is rarely somber or grave.
Well its hard to describe a mood, but its adventurous, and in a way its amazing because its the first time we have been introduced to the magical world so everythings new. Its also much happier than the last few books, and less "critical" I suppose you could say - because it doesn't set up much for the final book.
