In America and a few other countries the title was changed to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone because the American publisher believed American children would not know what a Philosopher was and Sorcerer sounded more exciting.
J.K Rowling later stated that she regrets allowing the change and had see been in a stronger position at the time she would have fought against it.

When the book was later released in the United States, it was re-titled "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". The publishers didn't think that American audiences would understand the reference to the "philosopher's stone" that ancient alchemists claimed could turn lead into gold.

It is About a Boy whose parents died and now that he is eleven, can go to a school called Hogwarts which he has never heard about. Hogwarts is a magic school and is very dangerous. Now a mean, evil guy called Voldemort wants a stone that will make him live forever.
