What is the story behind Severus Snape and Hogwarts?

Severus Snape was born to a pure-blood mother, Elieen Prince, and a muggle father, Tobias Snape. His parents fought constantly while he was growing up and Snape always tried to escape from it. He knew all about the wizarding world and was a wizard himself. He also began to notice Lily Evans, a girl who lived near him, had magical powers to.

Eventually he worked up the courage to tell Lily what she was and though the first meeting didn't go as well the two met again and soon became friends. Snape was always in love with Lily. He told her all about Hogwarts and how they would be going.

When they did go to Hogwarts he was upset when Lily wasn't placed in Slytherin and instead went to Gryffindor house where she met James Potter and Sirius Black who would spend the next seven years bullying Snape.

His friendship with Lily began to deteriorate over the years as she didn't like the people that he was friends with due to their cruel nature and involvement with the Dark Arts. Snape was very jealous of James Potter who fancied Lily and over the years asked her out many times.

Sirius Black almost killed Snape who was always curious about Remus Lupin. Sirius told Snape to look at the Whomping Willow and how he could enter it. James found out what Sirius has done and stopped Snape, saving his life, but not before Snape discovered what Remus was. Dumbledore swore him to secrecy.

In his fifth year, Snape lost Lily when he called her a mudblood after she tried to help him. She refused to speak to him again and his involvement with the Death Eaters become deeper.

Snape joined the Death Eaters shortly after leaving school and was no doubt heartbroken when Lily decided to marry James. In 1980, Snape overheard part of the prophecy and told Lord Voldemort about it. He soon regretted it after he learned that Voldemort intended to kill Lily as it was her son whom the prophecy spoke of.

Snape went to Albus Dumbledore and told him what would happen, in return for their protection, Snape joined the Order of the Phoenix as a double agent. He told Voldemort that he was spying on the Order for the Death Eaters. In reality, he was spying on the Death Eaters for the Order and would only tell Voldemort certain information which Dumbledore wished him to know.

After Lily's death, Snape promised to help protect Harry although he hated him and was reminded each day that Lily had picked James over him.

Snape killed Dumbledore in 1996 on his orders, he then protected Hogwarts and was killed by Voldemort. He asked Harry to look into his eyes while he was dying so that the last thing he would see were Lily's eyes.

In Snape's memories Harry sees Snape spying on Lily and her sister Petunia as children. They are at a park like place swinging on swings. Snape is in the bushes spying. When Lily starts going higher and higher then at the highest point she lets go and flies off the swing. She stays up way to long and lands way to lightly to be normal. Then Petunia scolds her. Lily tells 'Tuney' she wants to show her something. She picks up a closed flower bud and puts it in her palm. The flower starts to open and close. Petunia freaks out and Lily drops it. Petunia complains how she can do that she says "How do you do it?" Then Snape jumps out and explains that Lily is a witch but, the girls take it the wrong way and Snape is really upset.

Then in the next memory Snape and Lily are talking about Hogwarts. Snape is explaining things about the wizard world when they hear a stick snap and they turn to see Petunia spying on them. Snape makes a branch fall on her in his anger so Petunia runs home crying while Lily chases after her.

In the next memory they are on platform nine and three-quarters Snape is next to his mom. While Lily and Petunia are talking a little ways away. Lily is sorry Petunia didn't get in because she isn't a witch and is offering to talk to the headmaster when she is there. That sets Petunia off and she calls Lily a freak. That sets Lily off and she turns on Petunia and says "You didn't think it was such a freak's school when you wrote the headmaster and begged him to take you." Petunia turned scarlet at that. They argued some more. Petunia called Lily a freak again and "flounced" to her parents.

Next memory they are on the train where Lily and Snape meet James, Sirius, Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew for the first time. Lily is upset and Snape comforts her. Then Snape and Lily argue with the four other boys and Snape gets called "Snivellus"

Severus Snape started Hogwarts in 1971 where he was sorted into Slytherin house. His best friend, and the woman he loved Lily Evans, was sorted into Gryffindor house.

As they years went by, Severus became friendly with several future Death Eaters including Avery and Mulciber. He was enemies with James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew who bullied him (Remus and Peter weren't quite as involved in the bullying as James and Sirius but they did nothing to stop their friends.)

His friendship with Death Eaters put a strain on his friendship with Lily and in his fifth year when she tried to stand up for him he called her a mudblood and ended their friendship.

Severus began teaching at Hogwarts in 1981 after agreeing to become a double-agent for Albus Dumbledore. Severus managed to convince Voldemort that he was spying on Dumbledore for him and in 1995, when he returned, told him that he had stayed in the job to continue gathering information.

After the death of Dumbledore, Severus became headmaster of Hogwarts where he worked with Dumbledore's portrait to protect the students as best as he could without blowing his cover.

He abandoned his post during the finale battle and was killed in the Shrieking Shack by Lord Voldemort himself.
