The Parisian middle class describes the family into which French playwright, performer and director Molière (January 15, 1622 - February 17, 1673) was born.

Specifically, Paris' most famous dramatist was the son of Marie Cressé and Jean Poquelin. His real name was Jean-Baptiste Poquelin. His parents were members of Paris' merchant class. His mother died when he was only ten (10) years old, in 1632. His father remarried a year later, in 1633, and Molière's stepmother, Catherine Fleurette, also was a member of a merchant class family.
