She was known for (what we might call today) her portraits of celebrities, taking in the mid nineteenth century. Many of her images were somewhat stylised, using very close cropping on the head and shoulders and encouraging emotive expressions. She also produced portraits with mediaval romanticism, particularly images that played on ideas from the Geoffrey of Monmouth vision of King Arthur.
